The BUS-25a is a high efficiency, high quality, 100% automatic and fully digital Maximum Power Point Tracker
(MPPT). It uses the Buck Converter topology to allow higher
voltage PV arrays to charge lower voltage battery banks. By
recharging a lower voltage battery bank with a higher voltage PV
array money can be saved in wiring used to transport the power
from the PV array to the batteries by using thinner wires.

The BUS-25a collects the most available power from your PV array and transforms the input currents and voltages to boost the output charging current from 10% to 30% depending on battery charge state and weather conditions.


The most benefit will be seen when the batteries are discharged and when the climate is cold and/or in overcast conditions.


MPPTs work as a constant power source. Suppose the PV array can deliver 200W max with specific conditions, that the battery voltage is at 10.5V (discharged) and the array voltage is 48V nominal.


Since MPPTs work as a constant power source assuming 100% efficiency 200W into the batteries means that the current going in is 19A @ 10.5V. The input voltage and current varies with different weather conditions and temperature. In most cases the panel voltage for a 48V nominal array while under load in cold climates is about 68V. This means that the input current for 200W of power will be about 2.95A.


As the battery gets more charged its voltage increases. Suppose now the battery voltage is at 12.6V. Now the output current would be 15.87A. Power input should always equal power output with 100% efficiency. But in reality 100% efficiency is impossible.
